Three Hamburg-based companies are among the finalists of the upcoming "Startup-Champs@Digitaltag" or digital day to be held on June 19, 2020 across Germany. The event marks the first ever joint event by the four largest start-up hotspots Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. A public vote has been held online in the run-up to the event. The three most popular start-ups in a region will be pitted against each other during a live event to be streamed nationwide at 10:30 am on June 19, 2020. The contestants will present their business ideas to a jury of prominent experts, who will then select Germany's "Digital Champion". A total of 15 Hamburg-based start-ups had submitted their smart innovations and modern digital ideas for consideration. The regional finalists are:
fireXale
The idea for an urban O2O (Online to Offline) experience platform stems from Gerald Ebeling, Eric Heinemann, Raphael Neuburg and Daniel Nowak. The founders are taking part in the latest Next Commerce Accelerator (NCA) and have been developing an app to promote local service providers, organizers and local retailers since 2019. Apart from restaurant recommendations, exclusive discounts and other benefits, users get an overview of the current offers in a map-based app and can book them directly. The providers can enter remaining tickets, dates or perishable goods at short notice. The prices are determined based on artificial intelligence.
Pop-Up Camps
You would like to spend your summer holiday in Germany, but do not know where to head? The bsp media team led by Jobst Eckhard Edler von Paepcke has developed a new concept for temporary camping sites and is the business idea behind Pop-Up Camps GmbH. Holiday apartments and campsites were often fully booked even before corona. Now, the booking platform makes unused areas accessible for camping holidays. These spaces would otherwise be used for festivals or sports events. Private owners can also rent out their gardens and parking spaces on the platform.
Emmora
Evgeniya Polo and Victoria Dietrich founded their start-up Emmora UG in 2019, headquartered in Hamburg, to create a digital companion for funerals and related services. The duo and their team wish to make the experience as positive as possible and make it transparent. The platform offers a partner network allowing the bereaved to organise the funeral individually. The team offers emotional support in the form of personal and digital products.
This nationwide event highlights the importance of the national start-up scene and paves the way for projects that boost Germany as a start-up location and raise the visibility of German start-ups at home and abroad. Dorothee Bär, Minister of State for Digital Affairs, is the patron of the event.
