"We are backing promising projects via the #moinzukunft fund. Commitment and creativity should not fail because of a lack of funding," said Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment. Non-profit institutions including foundations, school and sports clubs can apply with projects that end no later than August 31, 2025. Experts in public authorities, commerce and science will decide on the recipients. Funds of up to EUR 5,000 can be approved in a simplified procedure. The funding scheme boosts climate protection and should help cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 and by 80 per cent by 2050 over levels in the 1990s.
Applications for the next round of Hamburg's Climate Fund #moinzukunft are being accepted until the deadline of February 28, 2024. A total of EUR 200,000 in funding is available for climate protection projects this year as the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation and the Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA) seeks to boost civil society commitment. Non-profit institutions can apply for a maximum of EUR 20,000 for their projects.
Climate fund to advance sustainable urban development
Over 100 climate protection projects already funded
The #moinzukunft scheme has funded urban initiatives that raise awareness of climate change since 2019. The funded projects focus on an educational, scientific, cultural, communicative or practical approaches and can be a swap shop app, educational offers for children and young people, a climate-friendly festival, cargo bike sharing or a wildflower meadow for insects. More than 100 projects including "Planet Guardians", an environmental education scheme for schoolchildren, have been funded so far. The Lokalkraft project, which networks local future workshops in Hamburg has also received funds.
