Prototype funding has offered games developers reliable funding for computer and video games since 2020, according to Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg. "We recognise the great potential of game developers in Hamburg and will continue to promote the diversity of games and teams," he added. Developers who based in Hamburg or are relocating or opening a a branch in the city are eligible for prototype funding. A decision on the allocation of funding will be made on May 5, 2025.
Games developers, teams and companies now have until the deadline of April 7, 2025 to apply for the Gamecity Hamburg Prototype Funding. A total of EUR 400,000 is available and up to EUR 80,000 per team.

Other funding schemes include the Games Lift Incubator. Every year, Gamecity Hamburg helps five teams to develop and market their digital games. In addition to EUR 15,000 in funds, participants can avail of coaching, mentoring, workshops and individual support. Applications for this year's Games Lift Incubator will be accepted from May 2 to June 10. More information can be found on Gamecity Hamburg Discord.
Successful projects
The sci-fi adventure "Missgiven" by Symmetry Break Studio is among projects that received funding. The company won the "Best Prototype" prize at the German Computer Game Award 2024. The co-op shooter "Replicore" by Amberdive Entertainment was a runner-up in the same category and scooped EUR 25,000 in prize money. An exploration game called "Map Map - A Game About Maps" by Pipapo Games won the "Ubisoft Newcomer Award" during the German Developer Award 2024.
