"We have achieved more predictable energy costs for the economy via the the price brakes for grid-based energy sources. The latest hardship assistance helps companies hit by significant price increases last year," said Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics. "Hardship assistance for SMEs and other support services cushion the financial impact of the energy crisis for those affected in the corporate sector," said Andreas Dressel, Minister for Finance.
Subsidies for higher electricity and gas costs now available
Applications for energy hardship assistance can now be submitted to the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB) until June 30, 2023. The monies are being paid out from April 3 to June 30, 2023. The Ministry for Economics is making federal funds available for special cases. SMEs whose electricity and gas costs had tripled between from June to November 2022 over the same period in 2021 are eligible to apply.

"Since the pandemic began three years ago, we have disbursed around EUR 3.5 billion in aid and, above all, mitigated the negative consequences and brought the city well through the crisis," said Ralf Sommer, CEO of IFB Hamburg. The aid is paid out as a grant amounting to twice the advance payment or twice the monthly invoice (total amount excluding VAT in November 2022). A de minimis limit of EUR 2,000 applies. The aid will only be paid out, if the minimum amount has been reached.
