"The high number of visitors confirmed the interest in the topics at the ITS World Congress," said Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg. The congress had shown how mobility might become more efficient, more comfortable and climate-friendlier in future. Harry Evers, Managing Director of ITS Hamburg 2021 GmbH, termed the interest shown by both professionals and the public "enormous". Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport stressed: "Hamburg is now a fixed point on the map for digital and sustainable mobility."
Record visitor numbers despite pandemic - organisers pleased
The ITS World Congress 2021 for intelligent transport and mobility systems closed its doors Friday in Hamburg after a record 13,000 guests, 400 exhibitors from all over the world and around 4,000 residents flocked to the fair this week and particularly on Public Day (October 14, 2021). The organisers, Ertico, and the City of Hamburg expressed satisfaction especially as the pandemic had forced the imposition of 2G rules under which only vaccinated or recovered persons were admitted to CCH and other venues across the city.

Focus remains on ITS strategy
The focus is now on implementing the goals of Hamburg's ITS strategy by 2030 and pushing ahead with the mobility transition, improving the traffic flow, increasing traffic safety and reducing its negative environmental impact. "We aim to continue many of the projects started by Hamburg beyond the congress and, for instance, to use the digitalisation of the S-Bahn to improve public transport in Hamburg permanently," Tschentscher said. "Many of the things we were able to marvel at here during the congress will improve mobility and people's lives for many years to come," Tjarks remarked. tn/sb/pvb
