According to the German-Japanese Society in Hamburg: “To Japanese companies, Hamburg is a dynamic economic centre and one of the most important locations in Europe. The port is a leading logistical hub in northern Europe and the infrastructure is extremely favourable to Japanese.” More than 100 Japanese firms including 25 European headquarters and the German headquarters of 35 large groups and trading companies are located in Hamburg.
Many Hamburg-based companies do business in Japan. Last week, the Hamburg-based shipping company Hapag Lloyd said it intends forging a new alliance with five Asian partners including three Japanese shipping companies to boost international competitiveness.
