Hamburg Invest's Startup-Unit and the German-Israeli Network for Startups and SMEs (GINSUM) are to host a joint event from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2021 to boost female founders in both Hamburg and Israel. The event is part of a Hanseatic-Israeli collaboration and comes after new figures indicated that only 1.7 per cent of all private capital in the EU is generated by female founders. Thus, there is plenty of room for improvement worldwide.
First event in November
International exchange
Commenting during the run-up to the event, Dr. Shoshana Feingold-Studnik, Ambassador at GINSUM, said: "Women in both Israel and Germany are underrepresented in the start-up ecosystem, especially in the funding sector. Talent is not being used equally and that will have a long-term impact on the economy." Profound changes are needed, she said, adding: "We support international exchange and support between women, who can learn from each other on a global level."
Hamburg and Israel expand co-operation
Hamburg and Israel already work together to support knowledge and technology-based start-ups. In December 2020, experts in logistics, mobility, aviation and hydrogen from Tel Aviv and Hamburg met for a digital event and discussed the future of cities and the environment. Another meeting will be held in December 2021, according to Hamburg Invest, Its Startup-Unit founded the #FemupStartups initiative last autumn with start-up hotspots in Berlin, Cologne and Munich to increase the proportion of female founders and investors in the German start-up scene.
