The first day of Scoopcamp (September 15) is dedicated to young people’s news consumption and news literacy. Alan Rusbridger, former editor-in-chief of The Guardian, will give a keynote on how journalists can convey the importance of their work to this cohort. Some of the expected 50 speakers include Mirko Drotschmann, alias "MrWissen2go”, who has millions of social media fans. Jochen Wegner, Editor-in-Chief of Zeit-online, will highlight how influencers help shape young people’s opinions.
The benefits of artificial intelligence for media, the impact of live streaming and the gaming world and communicating complex topics like the climate crisis clearly are set to top the agenda of Scoopcamp 2021 in Hafen City’s Designexport from September 15-16. Organized by nextMedia.Hamburg and Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa, delegates at the media innovation conference can expect keynotes, panel discussions and workshops focusing on the latest issues, trends and technologies in journalism. The conference is also being held as a free live stream event.
Future of journalism
Two days of keynotes, discussions and workshops
Day two (September 16) is dedicated to the risks and opportunities of digital transformation for journalism. It has never been easier for authors to build their own reach online, according to Pia Frey, founder of Opinary and Scoop Award. "The battle for attention, willingness to pay and for talented people will become even tougher," she says. For this reason, her keynote will highlight the possible opportunities of this development. Stefan Voß, Verification Officer at dpa, will give insight into his work as a fact-checker in a workshop entitled "Tracking Down Misinformation" while Sara Schurmann, a journalist specializing in climate change, will explain how to present the allegedly abstract climate crisis in a tangible and interesting manner.
Hybrid media conference
Delegates can attend Scoopcamp online and in person. Free digital passes for the live stream are available online. Tickets to take part in actual events on September 16, 2021 cost EUR 99 and are available at Designexport. Readers of Hamburg News can get a 50 per cent discount with the scoopcamp_HH-News code. This year's conference is backed by Civey, NOZ Medien and Zeit online and Meedia. It is facilitated by a partnership with the journalists' association Netzwerk Recherche e.V. and dpa’s #UseTheNews project with backing from the Schöpflin Foundation and Zeit Foundation.
