"I am very pleased that we are now following up on the previous, successful 'Update Germany' scheme. The large number of great projects has shown that Hamburg has enormous potential for social innovation. We want to exploit this further," said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics. The keener focus on social issues will forge greater co-operation between local government and social initiatives. Update Hamburg 2022 is likely to strengthen the interaction between the social-innovative community and authorities across the city.
The Ministry of Economics and Innovation has earmarked EUR 1.5 million in funds for social innovations as part of the "Update Hamburg 2022" scheme. The strategy should benefit community-minded stakeholders, as well as civil society organizations including private initiatives and universities. Applications for funding can be submitted online to the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg) until the deadline of October 22, 2022.
Boosting financial support and collaborations
More than technological innovations targeted
The scheme is part of Hamburg's Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) to develop innovative solutions in healthcare, climate and energy sectors, mobility, data science, digitialisation and new materials. Those behind socially innovative projects can now apply for funding of up to EUR 100,000 for 12 months from December 2022. The Update Hamburg scheme was created as part of the "Profi Impuls" funding guideline to broaden the reach of innovation, beyond technology.
