Locational benefits of eastern Harburg

High-density location

Along the Großmoorbogen in the industrial and commercial area of eastern Harburg, there are highly concentrated commercial and industrial enterprises in terms of construction and function. Three to four-storey office, laboratory and administrative buildings such as the GLP Laboratories, the Hamburg police traffic squad south and Oleo Chemie testify to a large number of jobs. In addition to these, there are large halls in which production facilities are located or in which industry-related services are offered. Since 1981, bakery products have been produced on a large scale at the Wedemann bakery east of the Großmoorbogen. Based in Großmoorkehre, Harms & Wende (HWH) has been known for over 75 years in the field of resistance welding and also develops and manufactures technology and equipment for the business areas Industrial Solutions, Automotive, Micro Welding and Friction Welding.

Knowledge-intensive enterprises

There is a high concentration of innovative and knowledge-intensive companies at Neuländer Kamp and Schlachthofstraße. In recent years, the district of Harburg has become a magnet for technology-intensive companies. The attractive environment and the proximity to the Hamburg University of Technology ensure that local companies remain competitive thanks to young people and cooperative research projects. In addition to the companies Harburg Freudenberger and SECO Northern, which form the heart of the innovation location in Schlachthofstraße, Ericsson and ABB-Automation are also located here. The existing start-up and research ecosystem can continue to grow by resettlement or expansion on the two remaining free potential areas along the Schlachthofstraße.

Muncipal commerce sites potentials

There are still 2 hectares of potential land on Schlachthofstrasse to the north of Harburg Freudenberger and to the south of SECO Northern. Like the 11.5 hectares of potential land at Großmoordamm-Ost, these are to be allocated to companies with a technology focus - including green technologies, aviation/maritime, medical technology and digitalization and material sciences. The sites are owned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and some partial areas are privately owned.

Close to Harburg city centre

The industrial and business location of eastern Harburg benefits from its close proximity to Harburg city centre. In addition to local suppliers located in the area itself, such as the factory sale of the bakery Wedemann and Fruchtkörbchen, a local delivery service for fruit and vegetable baskets, there is a kiosk, a DIY store, a tool shop and tool rental. The Harburg Town Hall is between 1. 5 and 3 kilometres away. Restaurants, shopping and local health services can be reached on foot in less than half an hour and by bicycle in less than 15 minutes. This makes it as easy to implement demanding business lunches as doctor's appointments or a drink with colleagues after work.

Offer area HUB + Neuland 23

With the successful development of the more than 20 hectare industrial area HUB + Neuland in the development plan area Neuland 23, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg has created a new area for industrial and logistics companies. By taking into account the demands of industrial uses and the demands of climate change, a sustainable and market-oriented range of land has been created. The area offers future-oriented companies from the industrial and logistics sectors ideal conditions for their development. The industrial and logistics location Neuland 23 was designed as one of 19 climate model districts in Hamburg. Here, industrial and logistics companies are to be integrated into the landscape by greening the roofs and reducing lighting. Approximately 90 percent of the roof surfaces are to be green roofs, which with their natural evaporative cooling reduces the energy demand of the buildings and favourably influences the local climate. As a CO2-saving and sustainable measure, the production of solar energy and a climate-friendly irrigation and drainage system are to follow.
