"For the first time in decades, our largest group of visitors is 20 to 30-year-olds. This shows that our museum and its agenda successfully combine contemporary themes and attitudes with our mission as a place of art history and appeal to the aesthetic needs of very many people," said Alexander Klar, Director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The recent exhibition to mark the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich exemplified that nicely. The exhibition gave art lovers insight into his work from a modern perspective and attracted around 335,000 visitors. The donation of 63 contemporary works by collector Alexander Schröder in 2024 has also enhanced the museum's collection.
Record 600,000 visitors to museum in 2024
A record 600,000 art lovers visited the Hamburger Kunsthallen in 2024. This was due mainly to the hugely popular Caspar David Friedrich exhibition "Art for a New Age", which has proven the most successful exhibition show in the history of the museum.
