Ingo C. Peters, Manager of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, accepted the accolade for "Germany's best hotel" during an online awards ceremony in early December: "We want to be at top of the hotel industry's 'Champions League'," said Peters, who began his career at the hotel as a page. Top quality is now more important than ever and especially amid the corona crisis. "We have already mastered several economic crises. The biggest one is taking place right now. Quality is the key now and even moreso than before the crisis," he added.
The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg has topped the ranking of the "101 best hotels in Germany". The Grand Hotel on the Inner Alster Lake prevailed over the Elmau Castle near Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Adlon Kempinski in Berlin both of which counted among the top three. The ranking was initiated by the Swiss Institute for Service Excellence and implemented in co-operation with the Handelsblatt and the ahgz (Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomiezeitung), among others. The Hotel Vierjahreszeiten (Four Seasons) was recently named named "Hotel of the Year 2020" by the "Feinschmecker" magazine.

New, independent hotel ranking
The initiators claim to have established Germany's first independent hotel ranking. Rolf Westermann, editor-in-chief of ahgz, noted: "Hotel rankings have existed for years in many countries. We are sealing a gap and providing an overview through a professional, well-founded competition between the best in Germany," saidPublic ratings on booking portals as well as expert assessments were evaluated for the classification of the hotels. Apart from a test of the best hotels, criteria such as the quality of service and communication were also taken into consideration.
