"As a founding member of GovTech Campus Deutschland e.V., we see great potential for updating the administration in co-operation with start-ups and external innovators," said Christian Pfromm, Chief Digital Officer. The campus should help leverage this potential and benefit the administration in the long-term by carrying out targeted projects with GovTech. "The campus will create excellent conditions for practical and sustainable innovation partnerships with the GovTech scene," said Torsten Koß, Chief Digital Transformation Officer of Dataport.
The City of Hamburg is creating the regional GovTech Campus Hansestadt Hamburg with Dataport to come up with new solutions for digitising administrative processes thereby creating a learning platform. This should open up opportunities for boosting collaboration with innovators and startups. The campus, which is built on cloud technology, is co-ordinated by GovTecHH.
Updating urban administration
One concept, several branches and different focuses
Launched by the German government, the German states and technology stakeholders, the GovTech Campus Germany has developed an ecosystem for this strategic overall concept. The aim is to set up a standard development environment for digital innovations in government and administration nationwide. "It is particularly important to address one of the main technological issues for the administration of tomorrow through the campus focus on cloud," said Koß. The first campus opened in Berlin in 2021 with more to open in the states of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg later.
Co-ordinator for Hamburg and contact point for start-ups
GovTecHH co-ordinates the activities for the City of Hamburg. As part of the project launched in 2022, a central information point is to be created for various ministries and authorities, district offices and state companies. Projects using start-ups' solutions and those of innovative companies will be carried out. GovTecHH will also be a contact point for interested start-ups.
