Hamburg to host live, online and hybrid events this year

26 August 2020
Line-up includes Hamburg Innovation Summit an Reeperbahn Festival

More and more trade fairs, congresses and other events are being postponed in the wake of corona and will be held as hybrid events in Hamburg this year. Hamburg News has compiled an overview and ventures a look ahead to 2021.

Live and virtual events

The Hamburg Innovation GmbH start-up camp will get underway from August 28 -30, 2020 in the Hit-Technopark in Hamburg-Harburg with seminars and just a few delegates. The events include workshops and lectures for prospective founders. The organizers of Solutions Hamburg (September 2-4, 2020) have opted for a hybrid event with lectures entitled "Hack your Brain" or "Team leadership via video call" at Kampnagel. Delegates will have opportunities to network in small groups. The online pass Solutions@home gives visitors access to the entire digital content. The conference is being held in co-operation withe the parallel German IT Directors' Congress (DILK).

The Hamburg Founder's Day is being expanded in its 25th anniversary year and will go ahead virtually from September 7-11, 2020 with expert videos, live chats and podcasts. Entrepreneurs, start-ups, young companies as well as those interested in founding their own business can learn about "Entry & Basics", "Marketing & Sales", "Structure & Culture" and "Rights & Duties". Participation is free of charge.

Reeperbahn Festival as hybrid event

This year's four-day Reeperbahn Festival (September 16-19, 2020 ) is going ahead as a hybrid event after the 2019 Reeperbahn Festival ended with a record 50,000 visitors and over 600 concerts. Concerts, art, literature and films will be held live on St. Pauli. Trade delegates can experience the programmes digitally in a stream at home. A wide range of live streams and video-on-demand will be available for all music fans who are not on site themselves. Around 120 live shows are being organized. Intervals of 120 minutes give organizers enough time to disinfect and air the venues. The Reeperbahn Startup Pitch, organized by the private initiative Hamburg Startups to give a winning team of founders a chance to present their company at the creative and digital festival South by Southwest in Texas, has been cancelled this year.

The Hamburg Innovation Summit (HHIS), originally scheduled for May, will now go ahead in a digital space on September 24. The "#HHIS goes virtual" aims to bring movers and shakers in the innovation scene together for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas based on best practices from companies and start-ups. The online career day for (young) professionals will take place on October 29, 2020 in the Edel-Optics Arena in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. d3con is also planning a live event and has invited experts in programmatic advertising to Hamburg from November 24 to 25.

Outlook for 2021

The Blockchance Conference on blockchain technology, originally scheduled for September 2020, has been postponed to March 30-April 1, 2021. This year's Next Conference has also been cancelled and a new date has yet to be set. The team behind the digital conference has launched the virtual "What's next?" series during which keynote speakers from the Next network give weekly online talks. Fintech Week, which is usually held in November, attracted more than 2,000 guests in 2019 with around 30 events, but will not be held in 2020. Veggie World will go ahead from October 16-17, 2021 in the fairgrounds in Hamburg Schnelsen.
