836th Port anniversary to get underway in Hamburg

10 April 2025
Annual port anniversary festival underway from May 9-11, 2025

The Port of Hamburg is gearing up for its 836th anniversary celebrations from May 9 to 11 2025 with all kinds of tall ships and cargo vessels and a colourful festival on land. Various fun events will be held from the St. Pauli Landing Bridges and the Altona Fish Auction Hall to Überseeboulevard and the Övelgönne Museum Harbour.

Highlights at a glance

Events begin on May 9 with an ecumenical service in St Michaelis church followed by a parade of cruise ships, tall ships, naval vessels, launches and many other traditional ships. Fans can look forward to motor and sailing yacht shows as well as a water ski show featuring pirates and mermaids. Other traditional highlights include the fireworks and Saturday’s tugboat ballet when the vessels literally “dance” to classical music and maritime tunes. This will be followed by the rolling home of the traditional ships in the Övelgönne Museum Harbour.  Events will climax on Sunday when the departing ships parade through the port between the Pauli Landungsbrücken and Teufelsbrück.

Fun events

Around 450 showmen will offer all kinds of delicacies,  handicrafts and fairground rides and amusement between St. Pauli Hafenstraße and Baumwall. Live music acts will perform on stages between Neumühlen and Kehrwiederspitze. Visitors can look forward to a tiny tugboat ballet in the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg while the open-art exhibition “Stadt am Fluss” on Überseeboulevard will present the history of HafenCity. Many ships will open their onboard shops free of charge to visitors as part of “Open Ship” event. Historic ships can be viewed in the Övelgönne Museum Harbour, in the traditional ship harbour or on the other side of the Elbe in the German Harbour Museum.
