Ships from all corners of the globe including Poland’s tall ship "Dar Młodzieży" and Germany’s "Alexander von Humboldt II" will take centre stage in 2024. The research vessels "Atair" and "Uthörn" are attending the festivities for the first time this year. Events begin on May 9 with an ecumenical service in St Michaelis church followed by a parade. Fans can look forward to fireworks on Friday evening and Saturday’s so-called tugboat ballet when the vessels literally “dance” to classical music and maritime tunes. A light show by AIDA Cruises at the Landungsbrücken will likely delight visitors on Saturday evening. The festival will be rounded off by hands-on activities, open-air concerts and live acts. Several cultural venues will offer guided tours and exhibitions. Events will climax on Sunday when the departing ships parade through the port.
