“The latest Fintech Monitor reflects the positive development in Hamburg as a financial centre overall and encourages us to continue implementing the Financial Master Plan 2021-2025 with Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V. and the Chamber of Commerce," said Dr Andreas Dressel, Senator for Finance. The InnoFinTech scheme targets companies that develop app-based business models for financial transactions, platforms for financial trading or asset management (fintech) and is boosting the fintech scene significantly. Fintech-related digital business models such as insurtechs, proptechs or legaltechs are also increasingly the focus of the scheme until late 2025. So far, 20 companies listed in the Fintech Monitor have benefited from the scheme.

The number of fintechs in Hamburg has risen from only 30 in 2017 to over 100 in 2024 making the city a key financial centre, according to the Fintech Monitor run by Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V. Fintechs operate in the banking and savings, insurance, crypto and trade finance sectors.

The "Hamburg Finance Master Plan 2021-2025", drawn up by the Ministry of Finance, the Chamber of Commerce and Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V., is preparing Hamburg's financial sector for the future. Finance City Hamburg (FCH) is implementing the master plan with emphasis on sustainable finance, promoting fintechs, developing skilled workers and cross-cluster networking.
