4,277 new business registered by September 2023, says Northern Statistical Office

A record 4,277 new businesses or an increase of 26 per cent over the same period in 2022 were registered in Hamburg by September 2023, the Northern Statistical Office said Monday. However, the number of business closures rose by 15 per cent year-on-year to 1,945. Yet, 2,332 more businesses were founded than closed down.

Hamburg Mitte district particularly popular 

Some 2.2 companies per 1,000 inhabitants were founded in Hamburg in the first three quarters of 2023. Most start-ups set up shop in the Hamburg-Mitte district at a rate of 6.0. This represented an increase of 63 per cent over the same period last year. Harburg and Eimsbüttel followed with an increase of around 34 and around 23 per cent respectively. The least number of business registrations were in the district of Bergedorf (0.9).
