“The aim of this sensational campaign was to present the City of Hamburg as international and to showcase the cosmopolitanism and enthusiasm for football here," said Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg Marketing GmbH. The silver award and the headlines in over 3,000 print and online reports shows that the installation reached an international audience of billions.
The staging of the group draw for UEFA Euro 2024 in Hamburg last December won Wednesday (May 1, 2024) a silver Clio Award for its outstanding design during a ceremony in New York. Initiated by Hamburg Marketing GmbH in collaboration with the Ministry of Economics, the project was executed by Jung von Matt Sports and UNIKAI in the Port of Hamburg. Staff had recreated the group draw in real time with 24 20-foot containers at the northern tip of the O'Swaldkai multi-purpose terminal. Each of the six twelve-metre towers of four country-flagged containers represented a UEFA Euro 2024 group.

Hamburg to take centre stage during championships
The containers are like the figurehead of an international marketing campaign under the theme of "Hamburg. Great Things Start Here" developed by Jung von Matt Sports and Segmenta Communications for Hamburg Marketing GmbH. Germany is hosting the European Football Championship with 24 competing nations from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Five matches will be played in Hamburg's Volksparkstadion in front of 50,000 spectators respectively. The Czech Republic, Croatia, Albania and Turkey will contest the first round matches there. The quarter-final match on July 5, 2024 will also be played in Hamburg.
