"The treatment of prostate cancer has developed rapidly over the past three decades, and the Martini Clinic has made a major contribution to this with pioneering medicine and care as well as innovative surgical and treatment concepts," said Prof. Dr. Christian Gerloff, Board Member of UKE. The clinic offers new treatment rooms e.g., for outpatient chemotherapy while eight operating theatres will be equipped with robot-assisted operating systems and focal therapy techniques.

The University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is gearing up to open its new prostate cancer in the Martini Clinic in Q2 of 2024 now that construction, underway since 2019, has ended at a cost of EUR 86 million. The new centre features cutting-edge technology, four wards and 100 beds to treat even more prostate cancer patients from early diagnosis through to advanced stages of the disease.

"The Martini Clinic is the world's number one treatment and research centre of prostate cancer," said Katharina Fegebank, Deputy Mayor of Hamburg . Around 5,000 outpatients and 2,700 inpatients will be treated in the Martini Clinic every year. An increasing number of patients have been treated in Germany and abroad in recent years, according to Dr. Detlef Loppow, Managing Director of the Martini Clinic. Data from the Federal Statistical Office indicates that the group of 50 to 70-year-olds will comprise more than 10.7 million men by 2040. "For this reason, we and the Executive Board of UKE decided in 2015 in favour of a new building with significantly more beds and operating theatre capacity," he pointed out.
