Dirk Behrens, Head of Aviation at Hamburg Airport, remarked: “The travel season is becoming longer partly due to a very popular September and late mid-term break holidays this year. Travel providers and regions have adapted and extended their tourism offers accordingly.” At the same time, interest in Nordic destinations is growing. As a result, Eurowings will fly direct to Rovaniemi on Wednesdays and Sundays from December 22, 2024. The airline will also fly to Kittilä twice a week from January 12, 2025. Eurowings is adding a direct flight twice a week from Hamburg to Nuremberg from November 4, 2024.
Hamburg Airport has launched its 2024/2025 winter flight schedule effective until March 29, 2025, a press release said Thursday (October 24, 2024). A total of 55 airlines will fly to 95 direct destinations including Rovaniemi and Kittilä in Finland. Klagenfurt in Austria has returned to the flight schedule.
Two new destinations
Direct flights to Klagenfurt resume
Long-haul destinations e.g. Southeast Asia are also popular this year. “The most important international hubs can be reached several times a day, fast and conveniently,” Behrens added. Qatar Airways has operated flights to Dubai and Istanbul since July 2024 and daily flights to Doha. Emirates flies direct twice daily to Dubai. Spain’s Volotea airline flies twice a week to Nantes, Florence and Lyon. Austrian Airlines will resume a direct flight to Klagenfurt in Austria from December 21, 2024 while Condor will fly to Agadir in Morocco with immediate effect.
Gradual return to pre-pandemic levels
More than two million passengers travelled from Hamburg Airport this summer. Footfall has risen from 11 million passengers in 2022 to over 13 million passengers in 2023, as operations return to pre-pandemic levels (2019: 17.3 million passengers).
