Students to obtain IHK qualification in rapid online course

The Chamber of Commerce and Heinze Akademie are to launch an online course in hydrogen technology from 2023. The course is aimed at specialists and people with little previous experience, a press release said Wednesday (October 5, 2022). The latter can complete a module on basic in hydrogen technology skills while skills in the production, storage and application of hydrogen will be taught in two other modules.

Combatting lack of skilled labour

"We can only establish the energy technology of the future, if there are well-trained women and men in Hamburg to do so," said Armin Grams, Managing Director of the Chamber of Commerce's education platform for lifelong learning. The course should boost Hamburg as a business location and counteract the lack of skilled labour as part of the "Hamburg 2040" strategy to establish the city as a hub of hydrogen technology.

Becoming a hydrogen expert

The Heinze Akademie and Chamber of Commerce had devised the part-time, online course starting in Q1 of 2023 after developing a course on hydrogen in 2020. The new course can be completed entirely online in just 135 hours and comes with an IHK certificate. One module corresponds to 60 teaching hours and can be completed within two months or eight hours per week.
